Halo Weekly Update 01/09/14

After a short hiatus and many New Year celebrations, the Halo Weekly Update is finally back – let’s get right to it!

Something New…

So, this only just came through, Josh Holmes just posted an article about some changes going on at MS and 343i, but more importantly… passed on a gift from the new 343i Art Director “Sparth”, a new piece of artwork that is “an early exploration of a new location that features prominently in a little game project we’re tinkering with…. ” – Exciting stuff, check out the full article for some more info!

Matchmaking Updates

In Monday 6th’s matchmaking update, SWAT saw a growth spurt with the new Big Team SWAT playlist now available in War Games! This new playlist offers the 3 different variations of SWAT (Regular, Covenant and Forerunner) with teams of 8 facing off against each other on the following maps:

  • Wreckage
  • Shatter
  • Longbow
  • Ragnarok
  • Vortex
  • Meltdown
  • Settler
  • Exile
  • Complex

Big Team SWAT will be available until January 20th, where it will be replaced by Team DLC as the featured playlist. For more info on upcoming featured playlists, check out 343i’s calendar here!

In addition to this, Ricochet received two additions to be in the regular rotation until further notice. These additions are Quickochet and Shotgun Ricochet! They both work exactly the same as regular Ricochet, but Quickochet features a “Hot Potato” style of play where the ball will explode if held for too long …and Shotgun Ricochet speaks for itself.

Community Choice: Team Doubles

It’s decision time again, Team Doubles will be seeing one new addition in the near future and as is now the custom, it’s up to the community to decide! Here are your choices:

Neutral Flag

Four players, one flag. Neutral Flag contains a centrally located flag which teams must fight over and return to their own base. The game type requires extraordinary teamwork and timing as well as the perfect balance of slaying and objective work, and the 2 vs. 2 version is no exception.

Keep the ball away from the other team! Once again, knowing when to run the objective or pause to neutralize your opponents is often the difference between not only map and game control, but also a win and a loss.

King of the Hill

Quickly moving hills provide fast paced gameplay that gives each team an opportunity to retake control of each hill and map.

The voting system has now changed to an embedded poll, which can be found in this week’s Halo Bulletin.

Halo: Escalation #2

The next issue of Halo: Escalation, the first serialised Halo comic, published by Dark Horse, has been released. This comic follows directly on from Halo 4 and will be of great interest for many. If you feel this may be you, head here to check out a 6 page preview of this issue!

Community Playdate

Whilst the 343i team are hard at work making Halo awesome, everyone has to take a break at some point, and this Monday is their turn!

From 6-8pm PST, on Monday 13th, there will be a HaloWaypoint community playdate, where 343i members will be playing Big Team SWAT customs. Send one of these gamertags a message within that time for an invite:

  • HaloWaypoint
  • B is for Bravo
  • SamPand
  • JayFresh006
  • TTL L askan

And that’s mostly all for this week, be sure to check out the interview with PeteTheDuck & the “Best of 2013” Screenshot Spotlight in this week’s Bulletin! Until next time, folks!
