Fans of the Borderlands franchise will be happy to hear that Gearbox has officially announced Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. So what does that mean exactly? Well, Gearbox says that it’s NOT Borderlands 3, (That will be a game with a new engine designed for next-gen consoles, but currently isn’t in development) but it IS the sequel to the original Borderlands and a prequel to Borderlands 2, which is how we arrive at “pre-sequel.”
The game sees players as four Vault Hunters working for Handsome Jack during his rise to power, and if you see some familiar faces in the bunch, don’t be surprised. The four playable characters in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are: Nisha, the Law Bringer (Handsome Jack’s girlfriend and Sheriff of Lynchwood in BL2), Athena: The Gladiator (BL1 DLC The Secret Armory of General Knoxx), Wilhelm, The Enforcer (Wilhelm is in his pre-robotification body and is the first major boss from BL2), and last, but certainly not least, everyone’s favorite uniwheeled robot, Clatrap! Yep, Claptrap, or more specifically the Claptrap that players came to know and love in BL2, will be playable as the Fragtrap class in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will be available Fall 2014 for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
