343 Industries has announced that an upcoming content update for Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have a beta starting January 23rd, 2015. However to be eligible you must own a copy of the Master Chief Collection, live in North America, and be a member of the Xbox One Preview Program.
If you’re a member of the preview program you most opt-in for the update through the Xbox Preview Dashboard. Selected participants will be prompted to download the content update automatically on Friday, January 23rd.
This content update is expected to be quite large with a recommended 1-2GB of hard drive space available (final file size to be determined), and includes changes to the matchmaking experience and party system. Opening this content beta to selected preview members will allow for additional testing and help create the best possible experience when the content update is officially released to the public.
The content beta will run from January 23rd to January 26th. During this time beta participants will only be able to play with players who also have the beta content update. After the beta, participants will revert to the version prior to the beta to allow matchmaking with all players. The public release of the beta is still to be announced.
Frank O’Connor has commented on NeoGAF stating “Everything is planned to be fixed” and that the beta test is “an update that drastically overhauls some of the underlying issues, rather than trying to fix them bit by bit.”
