In the latest Halo Community Update, it has been revealed that those who purchase the Limited Collector’s Edition of Halo 5: Guardians will now receive a physical copy of the game, instead of a digital download code…if they so choose.
When all three editions of the game and what’s included in each were revealed, it was also revealed that the most expensive and most limited edition of the game would NOT included a physical disc. This caused quite an uproar in the community and rightfully so. Die-hard fans and those that are shelling out hundreds of dollars felt as if they were being swindled a bit. Every previous LCE version of a Halo title has come with a physical disc. It seems as if developers and publishers are trying to push the digital option more and more these days, but the community has responded and it’s clear that the “digital age” of gaming on consoles isn’t quite here yet. ( Soon.™ )
However, it seems that those who purchase the LE can’t have their cake and eat it too.
If you purchase the LCE, it still comes with a digital copy, but you will be able to exchange it for a physical copy for free. So, you can’t have both physical and digital unless you pay for it. Fair enough.
More details are coming closer to launch.
Here is what Bravo had to say on the subject:
When we last left off, we let you know that we had heard the feedback that some of you prefer a physical disc instead of a digital copy, and that we were exploring options. Today, we’re able to confirm that for those who would like a physical disc, we’ll provide an option for fans to exchange their digital copy for a physical copy at no additional cost. We’ll get into details as we get closer to launch, and we’d like to once again thank you for the feedback.
Personally, I am very excited by this news and believe that it was a smart move by 343. I just like knowing that I own a physical copy of every Halo game and now I can continue that tradition with Halo 5.
What are your thoughts on this? Does having a physical disc matter to you? Will you be taking advantage of this new “exchange” option?

I thought I’d leave you with this image and I imagine it’s how most purchasers of the LCE are feeling right now!
