Volition, the developer of the iconic Saints Row franchise, has teased a new title with a four and a half minute cinematic trailer, seen above. The game, Agents of MAYHEM, is an open word single player third person shooter where you lead a team of three agents in epic battles against an organization of evil masterminds, L.E.G.I.O.N., which has violently seized rule over the world.
A long way from the 3rd Street we’re used to, the Agents of MAYHEM fight to save the still rebuilding City of Tomorrow; Seoul, South Korea. With what appears to be a current cast of twelve unique playable characters the player will be able to create a team of three Super Agents and head out into the city to ruin the plans of the LEGION Minister, Doctor Babylon, with a wide variety of tactics, gadgets, and play styles all while freely swapping between the members of their squad.
Despite being an independent IP not meant to be a direct entry into the Saints Row franchise the Multinational AgencY for Hunting Evil Masterminds, or MAYHEM, is funded by the mega organization Ultor; and it seems that there will be plenty of other signs that the game is still occurring in the Saints Row universe. So we’ll yet again take the reins of a team of anti-heroes decidedly focused on stopping the even worse guys with all new mechanics, a new epic story, and even more of the refreshing trademark Volition humor. It seems safe to say that we’ll have a whole new experience while managing to keep a somewhat familiar feel.
With the timing of the tease and announcement, it’s a safe bet that we’ll see more information at one of the E3 conferences rapidly approaching. Hopefully we’ll see a specific release date, currently set to be in 2017, and some gameplay footage to get an idea of what to expect. Currently the game is slated to release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
What did you think of the trailer? Will you play Agents of MAYHEM?
